Asbestos & Lead Information

The Department of Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for assuring a safe workplace at Cal Maritime. While it is true there are some buildings on campus with building materials containing asbestos and lead, these materials do not pose a hazard unless they are disturbed. EHS maintains the Campus Asbestos Program, and works closely with Facilities on sampling records and to assure staff use proper work practices when working with asbestos containing materials.

If you think you have an asbestos or lead disturbance or release, leave the area immediately (evacuate others from the immediate area well), and shut the door. Contact your supervisor and then contact Facilities 707-654-1120 during business hours. If no one is available for a 24 hour response, call University Police at 707-654-1176. Please do not leave a voice message, continue to call until you reach a live person to report the incident. Do not return to the area until permitted by Facilities, the Police and or the Department of Environmental Health & Safety.

Guide to Using the Quick Reference Documents Linked Below

All completed Asbestos and Lead surveys were prepared in compliance with all required regulations and are available upon request at safety@CSUM.edu.

Quick reference summary reports allow personnel who may be considering activities that will potentially impact or otherwise damage building construction material to quickly assess potential risks.

Many of the Solano campus buildings contain hazardous materials. These materials present no hazard when intact and functioning as designed.  Hazardous materials may only be impacted by trained personnel using approved methods and controls. No assessments can sample EVERY material; therefore, ALL materials sampled for asbestos or lead are listed, regardless of whether asbestos or lead was detected.  The reason for this is that if there are questions about a building material that is not clearly listed, EH&S MUST be contacted for guidance prior to impacting or damaging any material.

This guide is organized by building and describes the materials and whether they were tested for asbestos and/or lead.

Each summary of the original report is structured as follows:

  1. Building Identification
  2. Asbestos positive locations
  3. Either ALL locations sampled for asbestos with positive locations in red or all locations that did not contain asbestos (The different presentations are clearly labeled)
  4. A building floor plan showing the location where each sample was collected, which correlates to the prior tables.
  5. Positive Lead locations
  6. ALL locations sampled for lead with positive locations in red.
